Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone has decided to get a new look for her vanity van. Vinita Chaitanya, one of Bangalore’s leading interior designer was commissioned for this job. Vinita has also designed Deepika’s plush Mumbai residence.
While shooting for Chennai Express, Deepika invited Vinita Chaitanya to her set where they discussed the concept of refurbishing her van. It is reported that Ms Chaitanya was appalled at the condition of Deepika’s van.
“Well frankly I was quite horrified to see Deepika’s van. We had just finished doing up her fabulous new home, and yet here she was, spending the better part of her day in a converted bus with old vinyl flooring that just about offered basic comforts. Deepika agreed immidiately agreed and said that she had often thought of doing up her van but never seemed to find the time,” recalls Vinita Chaitanya.”
The first step taken was to order a custom designed van with altered dimensions of forty one feet by eight feet by seven and a half feet which is much larger than other vans. The van was divided into zones – private relaxation area, staff zone, pantry and driver’s area.
It was a challenge designing a comfortable, stylish, working space befitting Deepika’s status. Vinita has given a more vintage look to the van which is completely different from the stylish sleek look given to other star vans.
While most stars tend to go for a sleek, luxury feel to their vans, interiors in neutral colours, curved corners and smooth finishes, Chaitanya decided to go with a vintage look and feel. Vinita Chaitanya saw to it that Deepika’s van looked completely different from her home; which is more formal and glamorous.
Deepika has very definite ideas about design and these have been incorporated by the use of paper, lace, silk and linen. The look is fresh and feminine.
